Case Study

London

We collaborated with BAO London to create Café BAO, a flagship restaurant and bakery at Pancras Square in King’s Cross. The 3,000 sq. ft. space includes a restaurant, bar, bakery, take-out units, workshop, and head office on the mezzanine floor. The focus is a Taiwanese-inspired bakery goods counter with bubble tea, and coffee to go. Guests can watch busy chefs hand-making bao buns through glazed timber screens, and the mezzanine has an open kitchen styled with working utensils, hanging within bakery cabinetry. Café BAO’s design is led by the simplicity and honesty of Taiwanese culture and evokes the nostalgic domesticity of traditional kitchens, houses and eateries. In doing so, a simple material palette was kept deliberately restrictive to simulate classic timeless Taiwanese interiors.
